The Problems of Misinformation during Corona
Good Day! This is my weekly newsletter, with a dose of insights into the future. The topic of this newsletter is the exponential times we live in, hence the title of f(x) = e^x, which is the (natural) exponential function.
Recently, I launched my new concept The Digital Speaker and you can now book me as an avatar or hologram. Also, my tech trend prediction for 2021 is out, read it here!
The Problem of Misinformation, Bad Bots and Online Trolls, Especially during this Coronavirus Crisis
My latest article:
In 2020, the internet has turned out to have become a different place than it was originally intended. We can safely say that the web is under siege. One of the world’s greatest inventions is fundamentally broken. Fake news is the new normal, trolls and bad bots control the internet, and online accountability is non-existent. As a result, online trust is degrading and, in a society where trust is gone, anarchy could follow.
The way to fix this is to bring (anonymous) accountability to the internet. This means that anyone can still say anything online, but your words will have consequences (even if you said it anonymously), just as they do in the real world. If we work together, we can fight fake news, bad bots and online trolls and enable citizens to trust online content once again.
Three Useful Nuggets of Information
My weekly tips from around the web to get you thinking.
1. DeepMind is going after Corona
People often criticize AI tested in “toy cases,” or datasets that may have limited significance in the real world. With COVID-19, that’s no longer the case. (Singularity Hub)
2. Will the world go back to normal, probably not.
Social distancing is here to stay for much more than a few weeks. It will upend our way of life, in some ways forever. (MIT)
3. Why birds are the world's best engineers.
A bird's nest is a 'disordered stick bomb', but the are resilient in ways that humans have hardly begun to understand, much less emulate. (NYT)
